Every Morning. Every. Morning.

Happy Monday morning. Are you at work, or did you call in sick? Or maybe you just called in late. Your car wouldn't start, you said. Right? You really wanted to sleep in. You probably could have--peacefully--if you weren't a pet owner. But cats don't care what day of the week it is, and dogs don't care how much you had to drink this weekend. It's breakfast time. No matter what. So get your lazy behind out of bed, fill those bowls, and take the dog out for a walk.

Zootoo Review – 5 Products to Keep Your Pets Active

This article is from Paw Nation

Filed under:

As the weather turns cooler, pets and their owners may be tempted to spend less time exercising outside and more time napping inside a warm, cozy house. But the fall season is no excuse to stop being active, whether you have two legs or four.

Fortunately, many toys and pieces of indoor furniture can help to motivate your pets to stay mobile throughout the cooler months. Our friends at Zootoo rounded up some of their favorite products to keep your pets active and energetic.

sturdibag carrierMartha Stewart Pets

A simple but durable toy that holds up beautifully during extended play, the Neoprene Disc Toy from Martha Stewart Pets features an appealing red-and-cream design that makes it easy for distracted pooches to spot. Also, the tough construction of the disc stands up to power chewers, while the lightweight fabric is waterproof, in case the fall weather turns rainy during your exercise session at the dog park.

pet carrierTrixie

Combining a sturdy scratching post with a cozy plush condo, the DreamWorld Murcia Cat Tree from Trixie keeps your cat engaged and active indoors when it's too cold to climb trees outside. The post features a pom-pom toy for additional interactive play, and the sisal material provides a satisfying scratching experience for your feline. And the price, under $22 during some online sales, makes this piece of cat furniture a true bargain.

bergan pet carrierPetStages

An excellent fetch toy that can also captivate your dog during solo playtime, the Bully Dog Toy from PetStages proved to be almost indestructible during trial runs, withstanding serious chewing and pouncing from our tester pooch. The toy's bulldog-shaped head makes it ideal for a game of toss, and the mesmerizing squeaking feature kept our tester pooch engaged and active indoors for hours.

pet carrierJW Pet

A cheerful toy that awakens your cat's inner predator, the Cataction Swatical Toy from JW Pet features an ample amount of multi-colored feathers on a weighted base, exercising your cat's body and mind. Made from non-toxic materials and suitable for frisky felines of all ages, the design of this toy won over our tester cat during trial runs, keeping her interested for extended periods of interactive play.

pet slingPremier Pet

Keep your pooch occupied and active with the Busy Buddy Bouncy Bone Dog Toy from Premier Pet - a triple-whammy combo of bouncing rubber ball, satisfying chew bone, and engaging gnawhide rings. Our tester dog enjoyed working to strip the rings off of the bone, and owners will appreciate how easy the gnawhide chews can be replaced.

Deformed Pit-Bull Puppy Nursed Back to Health

This article is from Paw Nation

Erica Daniel, a Florida woman who fosters dogs that need extra care, saved a pit-bull puppy from the trash and nursed it back to health from a debilitating, life-threatening medical condition.

11-week-old Harper was born with a condition called pectus excavatum, more commonly know as "swimmer puppy disorder," according to NBC's "Today." Puppies afflicted with the disorder lie flat on their chests with their arms splayed out, resembling a swimmer in mid-stroke. Most puppies with pectus excavatum don't survive, and Harper herself came very close to being put down before Daniel stepped in.

Daniel had not originally intended to keep Harper alive, but simply to give the puppy one day of love and affection before she had to be euthanized. "I had to show her what it was like to be loved," Daniel said. But as she spent the day with Harper and massaged the puppy's limbs, the deformed dog began to respond and quickly show signs of improvement.

Instead of putting Harper down, Daniel had a vet perform a closer inspection, only to find that the pup was indeed far healthier than first thought. No longer doomed, Harper has received massage therapy and hydrotherapy. Now, only 11 weeks later, she's walking on her own four feet.

"She's a walking miracle," says Bev McCartt, Harper's physical therapist. "She's a real testament to a dog's determination to get up and just go."

‘The Cat Scan’ Is Exactly What It Sounds Like

This article is from Paw Nation

Are scanner blogs becoming a thing? Tumblr's microblogging format has produced a number of brilliant, single-premise, running-joke blogs. One of my favorites has been Scandybars which, while it's ruined my appetite for several confections, it is oddly fascinating to look at.

What other things can be scanned? Anything! Pets? You bet! If they're small enough, anyway. It was only a matter of time before somebody created and we found the Cat Scan. The blog is fairly self-explanatory: People's cats stand on scanners, they scan the cats, and then submit the images to the Cat Scan. Most of the results aren't much more than just feet and fur, but some of them approach something close to art. We've shared a few of our favorites here, but check out the full blog for more!

annapozzi, Flickr

Name: Lilli

Location: Italy

Age: 1

Breed: Doberman mix

Favorite Toy: Kong, rope

Favorite Treat: Pizza

Likes: Lilli loves swimming, running, playing, rolling in the mud, taking a good nap and trekking in the mountains.

Dislikes: People shouting at her.

Weird Quirk: Lilli is not very weird, but she loves belly rubs and she lays down on the floor in the morning near the bed so you can rub her belly for minutes!

Fun Fact: She once fell off the car. The hatch hadn't been properly closed so when her owners started, she rolled out in the street. They were frightened to death and immediately stopped the car, but Lilli ran back in the trunk like nothing had happened.

Pet Records – World’s Shortest Cat

This article is from Paw Nation

The record breakers just keep coming! Did it blow your mind yesterday when we showed you Stewie, the world's longest cat, who measures over four feet long? Well, prepare to have your mind blown again!

This is Fizz, and she's the world's shortest cat. The difference here is that while Stewie's world-record length is from nose to tail, 2-year-old Fizz is the shortest cat from her shoulders to the ground. But still, we're talking short here. We're talking just six inches. That is one low-down feline.

So what breed is Fizz? A munchkin cat, of course. With those short, stubby little munchkin legs, she looks almost as much like a ferret as a cat. But short or long, beefy or skinny, a cat is still a cat. And cats are adorable.

Rescue Dog and Rescue Cat in Love

This article is from Paw Nation

jesskateam43, Reddit

This one does my heart good. "My husband and I were afraid our adopted puppy and kitten wouldn't get along," says the photographer. It's a wonderful feeling when your greatest fears prove to be entirely unfounded. And ain't it grand when the "kids" like each other? I never had a dog and a cat together when I was growing up, but I had friends who did. Mostly the two species just kept their distance, with occasional sniping. I certainly never saw this kind of peaceful, interspecies intermingling. Perhaps these guys both understand that their lives were saved through the adoption process, and there's a bond there. What do you think, Paw Nation? Do rescue pets know they've been rescued? Can rescued pets recognize each other? Is there an unspoken brotherhood there?
