The Doggie Dish – What Is Your Dog-Breed Bias?

This article is from Paw Nation

Filed under:

We know you love dogs. All dogs. But there are so many different breeds, so many variations among the species, only a liar could claim to love every sort of dog equally. It's OK to admit it: you have a dog-breed bias. We all do. The Doggie Dish understands that, and they think we should be open about it, so they're leading the discussion.

The Doggie Dish is a site for dog lovers where dog bloggers from across the web come together to talk about the issues that go along with their beloved pets. In this Doggie Dish video, discussing their most favored and least favored dog breeds are Amelia Glynn of the San Francisco Chronicle; Bernie Berlin from A Place to Bark; "Stunt Dog Guy" Chris Perondi; Dr. Robyn Barbiers, President of the Anti-Cruelty Society; and Matt Drew of Drew's Pawspective.

Leave a comment and tell us about your favorite and least favorite dog breeds.

Zootoo Review – 5 Cool Catnip Toys

This article is from Paw Nation

If your feline can't resist the lure of catnip, you can spice up his toy box with a few unique products featuring the captivating plant.

From refillable "mice" to chew toys that promote dental health, these trinkets for catnip-loving kitties help to keep felines engaged during play. To add more enjoyment to your cat's recreation time, our friends at Zootoo rounded up some of their favorite feline toys featuring catnip.

A multi-functional cat toy that might also save your furniture from being clawed to shreds, the TurboScratcher Cat Toy from Bergan features an appealing combination of a scratch pad and a track ball to keep cats enchanted while playing. The Bergan TurboScratcher also includes catnip for the finicky feline who isn't already hooked by batting the ball or scratching at the center. And the scratch pads are replaceable for added convenience.

Soft but sturdy, the Mousefull Refillable Catnip Toy from Petlinks allows owners to tuck a tube of organic catnip (included with the toy) within the body of the strikingly lifelike mouse. Our tester cat fell in love with the toy at first sight, and remained spellbound with it. The Mousefull Refillable Catnip Toy also stood up well to extended periods of playing and licking, showing no signs of wear.

Featuring a brightly colored design and a satisfying texture, Dental Health Chews from Petstages offer an engaging chew toy option that also helps to maintain your cat's oral health. As your cat chews on the exterior netting, the toys help to clean tartar from his teeth, and the catnip filling keeps cats coming back for more interaction. And at a retail price of under $5 during some online sales, Petstages Dental Health Chews are a true bargain.

A delightful twist on a traditional feline favorite, the Pawbreakers All Natural Catnip Toy is a compressed orb of catnip, suitable for licking and playing. During trial runs with our tester felines, the Pawbreakers Catnip Toy did not break down substantially, despite its immediate popularity. And at a retail cost of under $3, the toy provided daily amusement for months - a great value for catnip-crazy felines.

As durable and ingenious as other products in the company's line, the Kickeroo Catnip Toy from KONG is a solid staple for any catnip-loving kitty's toy chest. The Kickeroo's potent blend of catnip oozes satisfyingly from the tiger-like toy, and the size - about 16 inches in total - allows cats to wrap themselves around the toy and roll around with it. As a bonus, the Kickeroo can be used as an interactive toy for owners wanting to engage with cats during playtime.

Cat Bubble-Wrap Party

This article is from Paw Nation

I'm never gonna grow up. Not completely. Not as long as bubble wrap still exists. When I recently got a package with bubble wrap in it, the item I actually ordered became secondary, for a few moments at least, as I squeezed and twisted and popped the cushioning material with glee. Meanwhile, the cat just sat on her chair, glaring at me like I was the biggest idiot in the world.

But she's the idiot! She shouldn't be so cynical, because it turns out that the joys of bubble wrap aren't limited to the experience of children and immature adults. Even cats are getting in on the fun, or at least the cats who aren't afraid to try new things, and who probably don't silently judge their owners with their stares.

Dog vs. Girl Push-Car Race

This article is from Paw Nation

A month ago, we featured a video that showed a dog giving an unsuspecting cat an impromptu ride on a scooter. I offered a few thoughts that might have explained the dog's preparation and motivations. In fact, what I said was that the dog's trick "delivers a lot of entertainment for probably a minimum of training and effort."

It may be that I underestimated our canine friend. In fact, let me take this opportunity to serve myself up a heaping helping of my words, crow, and some humble pie on which to feast.

This dog does not mess around. Here's a new video from the same YouTuber that sheds a lot more light on what's going on. That video last month? That was nothing, man, it was nothing. That was the dog saying to us, "Pssh, yeah, of course I can push a scooter. I could do that when I was a newborn puppy. I'm a pushing champion!" Watch him show off the real fruits of his labor, besting his human opponents in this push-car race.

Cat Straw Thief Caught in the Act Again and Again

This article is from Paw Nation

Do you remember a few days ago when we talked about that sneaky cat who managed to wriggle underneath the crack of a closed door? I had said that, before he had the bright idea to install a camera, the owner must have been going slowly insane trying to figure out how his cat had been getting past the door.

There's probably a lot we could learn about our cats if we were to leave them alone to be watched only by electric eyes. Probably you could figure out on your own who knocked over the glass of juice you left on the table, but the applications are more far-reaching than what's presented here. For example: I was 9 years old when my family got our first cat, and pretty quickly I realized the utility of blaming her for the many broken and busted household items I left in my clumsy wake. If only my folks had installed spy cameras around the house, they would've known what a lying klutz I really was all along. Parents, take note.

Pet on the Street – Does Your Dog Like Kids?

This article is from Paw Nation

Here at Paw Nation, we know that every pet has a story, and it's usually a story their owners just love to tell. So we decided to hit the streets to ask pets (and their owners) about everything from how they were adopted to what was the naughtiest thing they've ever done. It's our weekly series, "Pet on the Street. "
