"Honey, come quick! Look! A hummingbird! I've never seen one before. Gosh, you were right. Just a little sugar water and red food coloring, and a hummingbird appeared like magic. It's so beautiful, isn't it, honey?"
"Hey, another one! Golly, before today I never saw a hummingbird in my life, and now I'm seeing two at the same time! This is so cool. I--holy mackerel, there's another one! Gee, they sure are loud. I always knew their wings beat fast, but I never realized they buzzed so loud. They should call 'em buzzingbirds! Ha ha."
"Whoa, there's four now. Wait, no, there's five... uh, six... Um, honey? This is getting a little bit creepy. Did you put anything else in that sugar water? Well, why are there so many? Oh my gosh, they're really swarming..."
"Honey, honey I'm scared! What do they want? The sugar water's gone! What do they want? Oh, god, what do they want?! Honey? Honey...!"

Adorable Baby Goose Falls Asleep in Girl’s Hand

Explaining what makes something cute can be like trying to explain colors to someone who was born blind. But we know what's cute when we see it. Small things are often cute. Fluffy things are usually cute. And things that are sleeping/falling asleep, for whatever reason, ring our cuteness bells. Here's an gosling that ticks all those boxes.
Look at those flapping little legs dangling. Look at that fuzzy little face dozing. Watch him smack his lips--er, his beak--contentedly.
He's so stubborn, trying to fight sleep! Isn't it so satisfying, when you're trying not to nod off, when you reach that point where you give up and just let sleep wash over you like a wave? But this little goose isn't quitting so easily. Just when you think he's out, he snaps back to attention! I used to catch my old man doing that while watching TV at night. "I'm not sleeping; I'm just resting my eyes," he'd say. OK, if that's what you need to tell yourself, little gosling, then go ahead and rest your eyes. Rest your adorable little gosling eyes.

We're kicking things off with perhaps the quintessential home bird: the parakeet. And no offense, but we're willing to be that this budgie is more talented than yours. Can your budgie balance on a tennis ball? We've never seen it.
"I'm not impressed," says Grumpy Old Cat. "I accomplished much more elaborate feats in my day. Any cat could." We tried to explain to Grumpy Old Cat that the comparison isn't really fair, that as a mammal he has more brain power, not to mention four legs and a tail. "Phooey! Don't gimme any excuses. I can do anything that stupid bird can do and more besides."
"O rly, Grumpy Old Cat? Can you fly?"
That's when Grumpy Old Cat ran away crying.

Therapy Cats Provide Hope

The little calico cat that was found wandering the streets seems an unlikely candidate for pet-assisted therapy. Yet, like successful therapy dogs, Moorea has an intuitive quality and a friendly, people-loving personality that allow her to bond readily with the people she visits.
There is a great deal of anecdotal evidence and a number of organized studies that show visits from therapy pets can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and even keep depression at bay. While most therapy pets are dogs, cats like Moorea can often reach those who will not accept a dog. In one such instance, a 92-year-old retired military man in hospice declared his dying wish was to pat a cat. Enter Moorea. In fact, Moorea is so successful as a therapy pet that she has been inducted into the California Veterinarian Medical Association's Animal Hall of Fame, a rare honor for a cat.
