Bunny Goes to Town on Banana Treat

This article is from Paw Nation

"Hey, Pete Cottontail, why can't you chew with your mouth shut?"
"I could if I wanted to. I'm just enjoying this banana. It's really good. You want some?"
"You seem to think it's perfectly OK to smack your banana and chew with your mouth open non-stop."
"I don't really think about it. I just chow down."
"I happen to think open-mouthed loud chewing belies a sense of self-unawareness that I can't respect."
"Hey, some people think the way I chew my food is really cute."
"Well, I sure would never chew with my mouth open and smack my lips."
"Maybe if you did, people would think you were as cute as me!"
"Man, you are snackin'!"

Hairballs – 7 Tips to Solve the Big Hairy Deal

Amy D. Shojai is a certified animal behavior consultant and the award-winning author of 23 pet care books, including "Complete Kitten Care" and "Complete Care for Your Aging Cat."

Many cat owners discover wads of wet fur -- hairballs -- late at night when they step on them with bare feet. Cats seem to instinctively choose to decorate the most stainable portions of the carpet.

It's normal for cats -- especially those with long fur -- to experience hairballs once in a while. Cats spend up to 50 percent of their time awake grooming, and swallow fur in the process. What doesn't end up in the litter box comes out the other end as nasty cigar-shaped hairballs.

But swallowing lots of fur isn't healthy, and hairballs are more than a nasty nuisance. Kitties that produce three or more hairballs a month should be checked by the vet to rule out other health issues. Hairballs cause diarrhea, appetite loss, coughing, retching, constipation -- or even deadly intestinal blockage. Cats have had hairballs as big as baseballs that require surgery to be removed! Most cases won't need surgery, though, and most hairballs can be easily eliminated. Refer to these tips to untangle your cat's hairball problems.

Kathi Births Baby Hippo At Berlin Zoo

This article is from Paw Nation

At the Berlin Zoo, Kathi the hippo gave birth to a bouncing baby calf. We don't want to call her overprotective, per se, but Kathi literally pushes away her other kids, according to the zoologist.

Actually, yes, we will call her overprotective. She won't even let the baby's pop look at him. Although heaven knows he'll be paying for therapy bills for years to come.

Capybara Chews and Chews and Chews…

This article is from Paw Nation

Filed under:

So there's a lot of stuff going on around this capybara. We spot roosters, rabbits, and is that a peacock struttin' his stuff inside this gated area?

Passersby don't seem to notice (as they aren't at ground level, like we are, with the camera) that this capybara could seemingly care less. Bring on the noise, bring on the distractions, bring on whatever you want, but this guy's just gonna keep on chewing.

Is that gum in his mouth? Because, man oh man, it's got to be pretty dried out by now!

Our new favorite pre-teen singing sensation is 10-year-old Giovanna, who has blessed the world with her hot new single, "Me and My Puppy." We're not sure who Giovanna is or where she came from, but we do know that "Me and My Puppy" is going to be the summer jam of 2011.

"(Me and my puppy)
Don't forget about the dogs in shelters
(Me and my puppy)
Waiting for someone to love them and give them a home"

That's catchy and responsible!

We all knew this would happen. Eventually, Maru the box cat would tire of trying to squeeze into those tiny spaces because, seriously, how many times can you do that?

Well, good news. Maru has discovered paper, and it's opened up for him (and us) an entirely new world in which the Internet's most curious cat is all like, "What is the deal with this stuff?"
