Area humane societies praise new dog regulations

Area humane societies are hailing the state Assembly’s unanimous approval of new regulations for dog breeders as an important first step toward reigning in puppy mills in the state.

Under the measure, breeders who sell more than 25 dogs annually would have to get a license.
The state would investigate the breeder before issuing a license and could suspend or revoke it for violations.

A IT IS likely your dogs have lifelong immunity to distemper, hepatitis and parvo virus (DHP).
Other diseases such as leptospirosis will need boosters periodically depending on the incidence of the disease in your area.

The World Small Animal Veterinary 3Association reviewed the controversial area of booster vaccinations in 2007 and the debate continues as to how frequently they need doing.

Man arrested by armed officers

A man was arrested by armed response officers in a village near West Malling, Kent, following reports of an individual with a handgun, police said.
The man was spotted in the area of Taylors Lane, Trottiscliffe at around 7.40pm on Thursday.
A police dog was used to track him before he was arrested and taken into custody.

BLANTYRE contact lens manufacturer Daysoft have introduced their newest recruit, a nine-weeks-old Guide Dog puppy called Daysie.

Daysoft decided to sponsor a puppy because of the work the charity Guide Dogs do with blind and partially-sighted people.

Windsor Heights and Urbandale consider dog park

Windsor Heights officials are eying a piece of property in Urbandale for the possible creation of a dog park to be shared by the two communities.

Windsor Heights City Administrator Marketa Oliver said the city was approached by Urbandale about pursuing a joint dog park.

The property, chosen for consideration by Windsor Heights staff, is located just north of Windsor Heights city limits on Hickman Road, west of a former Kum & Go at 7755 Hickman Road.
