European defense contractor BAE Systems PLC shrugged off worries about U.S. defence spending cuts on Thursday, forecasting “good growth” this year even as it swung into the red in the first half.
BAE posted a net loss of 70 million pounds ($115 million) in the six months to June 30, compared with a profit of 599 million pounds in the year-ago period, due to foreign exchangerate fluctuations and the write-off of the value of some assets.

Michael Jackson’s personal doctor is more than 100,000 dollars behind on his mortgage payments and could face foreclosure on the home authorities searched in their manslaughter investigation into the singer’s death.
Dr Conrad Murray, 56, who has been dogged by money trouble, was racking up the debt when he went to work for Jackson in May.

Nine years after vanishing from outside her Australian family’s home, Muffy the dog was found alive and well this month in another backyard – 1,900 kilometres away – officials said Thursday.

McKees Rocks and Stowe residents will celebrate the one-year anniversary of their block watch organization Saturday with a free birthday party and picnic.
The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the Third Street Park in McKees Rocks.
